That means there is a word here for the Christian who feels ordinary. You may never be widely known, lead anything large, or see the full result of your obedience. That is not failure. The call is to abide in Christ, bear the fruit he gives you to bear, and trust him with what becomes of it.

The Collect refuses to sentimentalize the story. It acknowledges the rupture caused by Judas and then turns immediately toward the faithfulness of God. Matthias is chosen “in the place of Judas,” and the Church prays to be delivered from false apostles and governed by faithful and true pastors.
